Evans Scarecrow Contest

Build a scarecrow for the season and share a photo from Evans, Angola, Derby or a neighboring community. The entry mailbox opens October 1. Entries are planned through October 23; a reviewed gallery and possible People’s Choice phase would follow October 24–30, with a Halloween recap October 31. Dates may be updated here with a dated note.

How to enter

From October 1 through October 23, email Evans Scarecrow 2026 Entry ↗ with your name and contact email, a short title, community or neighborhood, one photo, and whether you want your name publicly credited or prefer “community entrant.” An adult must submit on behalf of a minor. Do not include a precise home address or private information in the public caption.

Rules and photo permission

1. Submit an original scarecrow display you made or have permission to enter, photographed with permission of the property and people shown.
2. Keep the display safe, lawful and suitable for a community gallery; do not trespass or obstruct sidewalks, roads or sight lines.
3. Do not include identifiable children in the submitted photo unless their parent or guardian has approved its publication; a display-only image is best.
4. By entering, you confirm you have the right to submit the photo and grant Evans News a nonexclusive permission to display it on EvansNews.com and related Evans News social posts with the credit choice you provide. You keep your rights. We may crop for layout and remove entries on a good-faith rights or privacy concern.
5. Submission does not guarantee publication. The desk reviews entries and may decline duplicates, misleading, unsafe, unlawful or campaign advocacy material. Email us for a correction or withdrawal request.

Gallery and voting

Approved entries will be added by an editor with an entry ID, publication date and chosen public credit. The private entry email will not be posted. A public vote will launch only if we can operate a fair, abuse-resistant method; otherwise the gallery and editorial Halloween recap will proceed without voting. No prize or sponsor is announced.
